Our Leadership Team
Blue Sky Vision is dedicated to providing world-class support to leading providers of eye care services. Blue Sky Vision was created in early 2017 and is a partnership among doctors, members of the leadership team, and Sterling Partners. Our Purpose is to Lead the Way, Improve Sight, and Change Lives; our Vision is to be the model for unsurpassed patient experience, inspiring and empowering our team through innovation, dedication to excellence, and the creation of opportunity through growth. To date, Blue Sky Vision partners include: Optometrists of Lansing, VisionCare Associates; EyeCare Associates, Sussex Vision Centers; Vitreo-Retinal Associates; Michigan Optical; Shoreline Vision; Walker Surgical Center; Lakeshore Eye; Surgical Care Center of Michigan; and Grand Rapids Ophthalmology.
Dan Shoemaker has more than 20 years of experience in private equity-backed companies.
Prior to his current role as President of Blue Sky Vision, Dan previously served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and before that, as Chief Financial Officer at Golden State Dermatology. Prior to this, he served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at NuLink, a broadband telecommunications company based in Atlanta, Georgia, where he led the company’s expansion for six years until it was sold in 2016. He also served as Chief Financial Officer at James Cable, LLC for nearly 15 years during which he also held the positions of Treasurer and Chief Accounting Officer.
Dan earned his BS in Physics, and minors in Mathematics and Computer Science, from Alma College.
VP Human Resources
Melissa Dabrowski has more than a decade of experience in numerous business areas, including human resources, strategic, information technology, forecasting, and financing. She is responsible for the BSV centralized human resources department, including recruitment, benefits, 401k, and performance management.
Prior to Blue Sky Vision, she was Executive Partner and founder of her consulting company, Behringer & Co. based in Caledonia, Michigan where she was the lead consultant on Career Exploration client engagements. Prior to this, Melissa led the global succession planning and talent acquisition process for Federal-Mogul, Motorparts in Southfield, Michigan. Melissa also served as Global Manager for Dow Corning where she managed talent development and organization development for the company.
Melissa received her BBA from Saginaw Valley State University and MS in Administration from Central Michigan University.
VP Information Technology
Jenny Fanning has extensive experience offering consulting services within the healthcare industry, specializing in the areas of NextGen-implementation process, technology optimization, and operations. In addition to her role as Vice President of Information Technology, Jenny is responsible for the operations of Blue Sky Vision’s Lansing and Southwest Michigan optometry practices.
Prior to joining the company, Jenny served as Director of Information Technology at Spectrum Health and West Michigan Heart. She previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Computer Products & Resources, Inc. for 10 years before selling the company in 2006. She is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a NextGen-Certified Professional.
Jenny received her BS from Northwestern University and an MBA from Boston University.
Colleen Mulder has extensive experience in ophthalmology and in addition to serving as Blue Sky Vision’s Vice President of Marketing, she oversees the company’s Call Center, facilities, and de novos. She is responsible for strategy, organic growth, referrals, brand, digital, social media, communication, and public relations.
Prior to Blue Sky Vision, Colleen served as Marketing Director for Grand Rapids Ophthalmology and Facility and Construction Director, where she facilitated the de novo growth of GRO’s eleven locations and ambulatory surgery centers. Previous roles with the company include Director of Diagnostic Services and Clinical Operations Director. She has been integral in the development of: CQI programs, Skin Solutions by GRO, Clinical Training Programs; as well as management of LASIK, the call center, and purchasing.
Colleen has had the privilege of teaching nationally and internationally for both the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society (OPS). She previously was an Advisory Board Member for the Michigan College of Optometry and on the Board of Directors for OPS. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Grand Rapids Lions’ Club.
Colleen received her BBA from Davenport University and a degree in Ophthalmic Technology from Ferris State University.
VP Finance & Accounting
Shane Rodgers has more than 15 years of accounting and financial management leadership experience. He leads BSV’s finance and accounting, revenue cycle analysis, and payroll teams, providing a positive and focused approach to continual process improvement.
Prior to Blue Sky Vision, Shane served as Senior Group Controller at Patrick Industries, Inc. where he was actively involved in acquisitions and had financial responsibility for a significant number of the company’s brands. Prior to this, Shane served as Chief Financial Officer of Poly-Wood, LLC and in several progressive financial leadership roles at Zimmer Biomet. He has also served as the Associate Director of Internal Audit at Zimmer Holdings, Inc. and before that, as a Senior Associate and Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Shane earned both his BBA and MS in Accounting from Western Michigan University.
